A small town South African girl and adventure seeking New Zealand boy both swiped right looking for love and friendship in a new country they now both called home. Their first date was set for the iconic Little Creatures in Fremantle. Jason, being an avid gamer was midway through an intense game and almost cancelled – but boy was he glad he didn’t when he first laid eyes on Bronwyn.

After dating for a few years and building a beautiful home together, Jason decided it was time to drop down on one knee. The timing was perfect with both their parents visiting from South Africa and New Zealand. Surrounded by friends and family in their newly built home, Jason surprised Bronwyn with a beautiful ring and a question she was waiting for him to ask. She was so surprised that for the first time in her life she was speechless.

They originally planned to marry in a private villa in Canguu, Bali. They thought this was the best location - not only for the beauty of Bali, but also because it was a central location for family and friends to travel to - with the added benefit of some luxury and relaxation time.

The dress was purchased, bridesmaids and groomsmen ready to go and invitations were sent. Then - Covid. Hoping that travel restrictions would loosen so their wedding could proceed, they waited as long as possible to make the hard decision to postpone their Bali celebrations. However, they didn’t want to wait and ended up planning an intimate wedding right here in Perth.

Bronwyn jumped into planning their beautiful wedding in just 8 weeks. She dried out flowers to make her bouquet and had a beautiful felt cake topper made that looked just like her, Jason and their two pups. They were able to get the same date for a ceremony at the Old Tower House with a small reception for their 16 guests at Coogee Common.

The ceremony was live streamed to a Facebook group, where they asked their family and friends to dress up for the occasion, to join in the celebrations. They were able to spend a few quiet moments calling their families after the ceremony, while in the backseat of the car to the reception.

During the ceremony Jason + Bronwyn actually forgot that they would need to ask for witnesses. They unexpectedly asked their neighbour, who happened to be in the front row. Luckily, he was more than happy to do it.

Their main advice for future couples is to keep it simple and choose things that will make you happy… and not do things for anyone else. Also to take time for yourselves at some stage, otherwise you’ll spend the whole time making sure everyone is okay.

Being married to your best friend means that you are never alone, you get to experience life’s ups and downs, celebrations and challenges together and support each other to be stronger.
