Welcome to our new Vendor Spotlight series - exactly what the title suggests! We’ll be bringing you Q+A’s with the most amazing and beautiful vendors that operate right here in Perth and Western Australia.

Today we’re talking to Natalie from Iconic Weddings. Natalie has been in the wedding industry for 6 years, but involved in events in a number of capacities for over 20 years. She answers some of your questions for a wedding planner below -

What does a wedding planner actually do?

Basically, a wedding planner helps couples plan their wedding. Over the past few years, the industry has seen a variety of planning services emerge from the traditional "plan it all for you" scope. This is how my services have been designed which means that planning assistance is now accessible to all budgets.

So depending on the style of service that the planner offers, tasks for a wedding planner can include:

* guidance and advice in the specifics of how to plan your wedding

* booking and planning every part of the day

* supplier recommendations

* supplier liaison

* design and assistance with floor plan design and on the day logistics

* on the day

* supplier management for set up

* event set up

* logistics management

Essentially, working with a wedding planner saves you time, money and the stress of juggling the demands of planning your wedding by using their skills and experience.

What is your favourite part of a wedding day?

Oooh, the thing that fills my heart on a wedding day is watching the reaction of the person standing at the front of the ceremony when they see their partner walking down the aisle. It's fleeting, raw and honest, and the core of what the day is about.

Additionally, seeing the enjoyment that couples and guests get as they celebrate and create memories makes every bit of the hard work to plan the day so worthwhile.

Why did you choose to work on weddings?

I was drawn to weddings because I had witnessed the stress and extreme budget blowouts that so many couples were having with their wedding planning. And hearing couples planning wedding days that were so "cookie-cutter" in their design because they didn't know how to create a day that reflected them was so upsetting.

I am obsessed with all types of events but seeing couples having these troubles at a time that should be one of the happiest time of their life, made me desperate to help couples plan a day that sings of them.

How far in advance do you prefer couples to book in with you?

So much success of planning a wedding comes from laying solid foundations. Which means the best time to start working with me is as soon as couples make that decision to start planning their wedding.

Do you charge a delivery or travel fee?

Travel in the Perth metro is factored into my pricing, but any venues that are outside of this is additional costs.

And finally, what’s the number one piece of advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding?

Take the time to lay the foundations of your wedding BEFORE you begin to lock things in. By this I mean, work out exactly how much you have to spend on your day, where the money will go, what does your ideal wedding day look like for both you and your partner, and what do you need to have in place to create this. There is so much discussion and pre-planning that should be done before couples jump into locking things in. Unfortunately, so many problems couples encounter along the journey is because they didn't take the time to do this first.
