4 things to consider when booking your wedding vendors

Planning a wedding requires an organised and ordered approach. And one of the biggest parts of your planning will be hiring the vendors you need to help you bring your dream wedding day to life.

There’s no specific way or order to book your vendors but there are certain factors that you’ll need to consider when starting out.

If you follow the points below when booking your vendors, you’ll get the best out of them all - for the duration of your planning :

Decide if you’re going to use a wedding planner

First things first, you need to consider if you’ll be using a wedding planner. Planners are not considered a necessary vendor but they definitely can lighten your load and make your planning much more manageable and fun! They will be able to help you source other vendors and help with your venue selection too.

You can always hire a planner further along in the process, but they will be your right-hand person throughout your wedding planning and you want them in your corner from the very beginning.

If hiring a partial planner, or day-of coordinator, you can hire your other vendors ahead of this person and bring them on closer to the day.

Prioritise your vendors

Just like when you decide on your non-negotiables at the very beginning of your wedding planning process (read more on that here), you should also create a priority list for your wedding vendors as well.

If working with a specific vendor is the most important to you, you’ll need to reach out to these people first to hold your date. If you haven’t decided on your date yet, their availability may be key in helping you decide on one.

You should also be looking at choosing and booking a venue early too, as once you’ve booked a venue, it will determine which vendors you’ll be able to book according to their availability.

Check availability

Once you have a date decided on, and a venue locked in, booking other vendors will depend on their availability on your chosen date - and also what is happening in your wedding location at that time.

For example, hotel rooms and transport options may be limited if there are large scale events in the area at the time. This means you’ll need to book these vendors earlier than a recommended timeline, to ensure you don’t leave it til the last minute and miss out.

Be flexible

If you are finding vendor availability an issue (as you may have already experienced for the coming seasons here in Perth + WA), try not to feel too stressed or overwhelmed. If there is a specific vendor you want to work with and they aren't available on your day, ask them if they have any alternative recommendations for you that would suit your style. If you stay flexible while trying to find your vendors, you’ll end up with a great team that will suit your needs for your dream day.

Vendor searching can definitely feel overwhelming as there are a lot of options out there. But if you prioritise and book early enough, you'll be able to turn your dream day into reality!
